Within the PRO PRICARE network the Institute for Biomedicine of Aging (IBA) was part of the ICF-project.

Research areas:

The Institute for Biomedicine of Aging (IBA) of the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) has a long tradition of conducting research projects in the area of nutrition and aging, basic research on sarcopenia, and exercise intervention in community-dwelling older persons ranging from healthy to pre-frail and frail status. Furthermore the IBA has research experience in diet and nutrition in the nursing home setting. The Institute of Biomedicine of Aging (IBA) is part of the Chair of Internal Medicine – Geriatrics at the FAU under the direction of Porf. Dr. C. C. Sieber. PD Dr. E. Freiberger is responosible for the area of mobility and frailty.

The IBA is currently involved in European projects: one of these is investigating determinants of diet and physical activity (DEDIPAC),in addition, Cornel Sieber and Ellen Freiberger are the German partners in the SPRINT-T project (IMI call) – to assess the impact of physical exercise in the prevention of frailty and sarcopenia. Furthermore Dr. Freiberger is involved in national and international fall prevention research in older community-dwelling persons with special focus on dissemination, physical and psychological fear of falling risk factors for falls. Dr. Freiberger has conducted national research projects in the area of  fall prevention in the GP setting. Dr. Freiberger is at present part of collaboration with the RKI for fall prevention using national data. the IBA is currently involved in dissemination strategies for increasing and promoting physical activity in the older population in the EUNAAPA network.
