DIAMANT
Thyroid DIagnostics in AMbulANT care
What is it all about?
In the diagnostic work-up of suspected thyroid diseases, blood tests are often not used as recommended in guidelines and ultrasound is used too early. The probability of detecting a mostly benign and non-problematic nodule is up to 70 percent, which often leads to unnecessary follow-up examinations and uncertainty for patients. Up to now, there has been a lack of standardised procedures for risk assessment in diagnostic tests and for patient communication. One of the aims of the DIAMANT project is to support physicians and patients in assessing the need for diagnostic tests and the risks associated with them more precisely.
How does the study work?
As part of the project, a so-called diagnostics box is being developed together with physicians and patients and the box will then be evaluated in GP care. The diagnostics box includes online training module in the diagnostic evaluation of thyroid disorders, overdiagnosis and risk communication, information materials for patients and an arriba tool for risk communication for the use of ultrasound.
