Doctor-patient communication

In this project we were focusing on communication between patient and practitioner. High quality communication is able to decrease or prevent unnecessary medicine. Patients enter the consultation with ideas about their illness and it is essential for the doctor to reveal these through a patient-centered communication. However, there is a lack of communication training in current post- and undergraduate teaching.

In a cluster-randomized study we assessed the impact of doctor-patient communication on the quality of care. In addition, simple support tools were developed to implement improved communication in the every-day practice.

This study will be carried out by the Institute of General Practice in close cooperation with the Department of Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy and the Chair of Health Care Management .
