Young Scientist Program

The Young Scientist Program within the PRO PRICARE Research Network

Aim of the Young Scientist Program:

Our integrated program to support young scientists is an essential component of the PRO PRICARE research network. It pursued the following targets:

  • Promotion of networking and interdisciplinary exchange;
  • Targeted methodologic and content related training in the field of health care research.

The program addressed mainly the young scientists within the network working on their doctoral thesis. The participants came from different institutes and research centres of the University Hospital and the University of Erlangen. They had a diverse research background ranging from sports science, sociology, general practice, psychology, health care management and economics. The young scientists received methodological and technical training in interdisciplinary topics in the area of health care research. In total eight young scientists participated in the program.

The mentoring program:

Within the program, each of the participating young scientists was appointed a senior scientist acting as a mentor. During regular meetings with the mentors various topics like career opportunities and strategies, and formal and content related aspects of the thesis were discussed. Additional feedback and technical input was provided through annual meetings of the external scientific board and the young scientists.

Research Seminars:

A number of research seminars took place. The participants were encouraged to present and discuss their ongoing research work. The senior scientists of the PRO PRICARE Network provided in-depth methodological and theoretical input and feedback in areas like health economics, public health research, geriatric research, psychology and general practice in the field of health care research, overtreatment and demographic change. Additional topics have been project management, scientific writing or publication strategies. Also representatives of the PRO PRICARE research practice networks and health insurance providers KVB and GWQ were invited to discuss issues of how to practically use the research results generated by the project.
