IMPRO
Improved Management of Patients with Recent-Onset Stable Chest Pain
What is it all about?
Compared to other countries, Germany performs a particularly high number of cardiac catheter examinations (700,000 per year). The IMPRO study is researching a new, interdisciplinary approach to care for patients with chest pain and suspected chronic coronary heart disease (CHD), focusing on outpatient diagnosis and treatment.
How does the study work?
More than 300 general practitioners, radiologists, and cardiologists, 3,000 patients, 30 research partners, and 16 regions across Germany are participating in the IMPRO study, making it one of the largest outpatient studies ever conducted. The study follows patients in two phases: first with the usual care, then with a new interdisciplinary approach that sometimes includes a cardiac CT scan. The goal is to find out which care pathway works better in the long run and thus improves care for patients with chronic CHD.
